Forward Pinellas was thrilled with an incredible turnout for our reinvented, self-guided “Bike Your City” scavenger hunt through our host city of Safety Harbor. From October 16, 2020 – October 31, 2020, over 500 participants found 20 locations on our scavenger hunt map and submited a “selfie” or picture of their bike at the landmark using our interactive online form.
On November 13, 2020, we hosted a “Bike Your City 2020” Webinar, bringing together bike advocates, researchers and leaders from throughout the state for a discussion on the bike safety measures and how we can improve our roadways to be more bicycle and pedestrian friendly.
“We’ve had over 550 people participate in our virtual Bike Your City scavenger hunt through Safety Harbor. There has also been a dramatic increase in people bicycling and walking on our Pinellas trails this year,” says Executive Director Whit Blanton. “This is evidence of bicycling’s increasing popularity, particularly during the pandemic, and that bike safety must remain a priority.”
At the webinar, participants viewed a photo montage of the pictures taken throughout Bike Your City and saw the final community art project created by the Bike Your City participants.
Speakers from Forward Pinellas, the University of South Florida, the Florida Bicycle Association and the Florida Department of Transportation will discuss promoting biking awareness and advocacy throughout the state.
