As a metropolitan planning organization, Forward Pinellas determines what transportation projects should receive state and federal funding in Pinellas County with its long range transportation plan (LRTP). The Advantage Pinellas 2050 LRTP is a strategic plan to improve mobility, accessibility, and economic opportunity countywide.
Developing Advantage Pinellas 2050
Advantage Pinellas 2050 was adopted as the Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) for Pinellas County on November 13. Through a combination of surveys, focus groups, and regional coordination, Forward Pinellas gathered input on the transportation preferences and concerns of the public.
In accordance with these findings, Forward Pinellas identified five guiding principles in its LRTP. Forward Pinellas then used these guiding principles, public input, and data analysis to identify transportation investments that would support our goals. This identification process is especially important because transportation investments must be identified in our LRTP in order to be eligible for state and federal funding.
Understanding Advantage Pinellas 2050
To help our residents better understand the long range transportation plan, Forward Pinellas created an Advantage Pinellas 2050 story map, an interactive, online document that outlines the goals and analysis involved in plan development.
The image to the left is taken from the story map and shows the roadway, active transportation, and transit projects included in Advantage Pinellas 2050.
