The Tampa Bay region is one of the most vulnerable areas in the country, experiencing frequent storm events and persistent flooding. Forward Pinellas, the Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Pasco MPOTampa Bay Regional Planning Council, and the Florida Department of Transportation District 7 have been awarded a Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Resilience and Durability to Extreme Weather grant.

Each MPO is currently developing their 2045 Long Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) and new federal requirements state that future LRTPs must work on “improving the resiliency and reliability of the transportation system and reducing or mitigating the stormwater impacts of surface transportation.”

This pilot project will assist in meeting the new federal mandate as well as inform the long range plan updates for three MPOs and the regional LRTP.
