SAFE STREETS PINELLAS<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Safe Streets Pinellas is a collaborative effort to create a transportation system that is safe for everyone. Our goal is for no one to be killed or seriously injured using the roadways in Pinellas County.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In 2021, Forward Pinellas developed and adopted the Safe Streets Pinellas Resolution<\/a>, committing the agency to prioritizing safety in all aspects of our work. By late 2022, 21 of the 25 local governments in Pinellas County signed the resolution. Our staff continues to work to get all 25 local governments to sign. Forward Pinellas works with local government partners to advance projects that address the recommendations coming from the\u00a0Safe Streets Pinellas Action Plan<\/a>, including through the pursuit of grant funding.<\/p>\n

VISION ZERO EFFORT<\/h2>\n

Vision Zero<\/a> is a transportation safety philosophy based on the principle that loss of life is not an acceptable price to pay for mobility.<\/p>\n

It is a strategy employed by communities across the country and the world that radically redefines the idea of what transportation safety means: that not one person should be killed or seriously injured using our roadways.<\/p>\n

Assigning blame to individuals is not solving our transportation crisis. THE ACTION PLAN<\/span><\/h2>\n

Forward Pinellas studied where we\u2019re seeing concerns on our roadways and why these crashes are happening. We\u2019ve also held several demonstration projects to test ways we could make our roads safer, such as exploring new technology and educational outreach. Now we\u2019ve created an Action Plan that will guide our steps as we work toward ensuring everyone is safe on our roadways in Pinellas County.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This map provides a deep dive into where collisions are happening. Detailed collision analysis helps us learn more about our roadways. Many of our fatal or seriously injured crashes involve vulnerable users \u2013 pedestrians, bicyclists, or motorcyclists. We started the development of the Safe Streets Pinellas Action Plan by looking at factors such as where collisions are happening, what time of day or year they occur, the ages of those involved, and if they include a Driver Under the Influence (DUI) violation.<\/p>\n
