To complete Question 18 on the Truth in Annexation worksheet, you will need to know the amount of electricity you use in an average month, in kilowatt-hours (kWh). An example of a typical electric bill is shown below. The red circle shows the location of the kWh information.

Why do we ask for kWh? Unlike most utility taxes, which are based on a percentage of your bill (such as 6%), electricity is taxed according to a complex formula. Properties that use a lot of electricity are charged a higher percentage than those that use less. That’s why the worksheet asks how much electricity you use, and not how much you spend.
