PROJECT AREA
OVERVIEW
This project included inventorying existing traffic control devices, crosswalks, sidewalks, and bike lanes; development of a traffic control study methodology for identification and warrant of all-way stop control at intersections; and preparation of conceptual designs of improvements.
The study area is primarily residential but also includes a handful of other uses, including commercial/retail establishments, schools, churches, and City owned properties (City Hall, Library, Cultural center and parks).
Existing Inventory
- Stop Control Devices: There are 86 stop controls, 13 of which are all-way stop controls and five of which are signalized intersections.
- Bicycle lanes – On approximately 19% of roadway miles within the study area.
- Sidewalks – Approximately 92% of the network including sidewalks on both sides and 7% include a sidewalk on one side of the road only.
- On-street parking – Available along portions of State St and St. Petersburg Dr.
CRASH DATA
- 312 collisions were reported
- There was 4 fatalities (3 pedestrians) and 6 severe injuries
- 6 crashes involved a bicyclist and 6 involved a pedestrian

PROPOSED COUNTERMEASUERS/SOLUTIONS
- Various improvements along SR 580 and its intersections that address things such as signaling, crosswalks and other pedestrian crossings, and median extensions.
- Multimodal improvements and speed management for St Petersburg Dr from Oakwood Blvd to Bayview Blvd.
- All-way stop control or some other form of traffic calming and protected pedestrian crossings at the intersections of St Petersburg Dr/Federal St and St Petersburg Dr/Oakwood Blvd. Federal St. due to proximity to the school.
