Forward Pinellas first adopted the Safe Streets Pinellas Action Plan in 2021, committing to a goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our roadways throughout Pinellas County by 2045. The Action Plan is a living document that periodically updated with new data and re-evaluated to see what solutions have been the most effective and where improvements can be made.

“This Action Plan is an important step to change how we approach safety and planning in Pinellas County. No one should be killed on our roadways. No loss of life is acceptable regardless of how people travel.” ~ Pinellas County Commissioner Dave Eggers
Forward Pinellas was most recently awarded a $400,000 grant through the Fiscal Year 2024 Safe Streets and Roads for All Program (SS4A) to update the Action Plan. Work on updating the plan will occur over the next two years.
Key Components of the Update

Beginning Spring 2026, Forward Pinellas will host a series of community workshops to share project updates and gather input from the public and stakeholders. An interactive online map and survey will also be available for community members to highlight safety concerns and share their experiences.
Following the adoption of the Safe Streets Pinellas Action Plan, Forward Pinellas, jointly with Pinellas County and the cities of Dunedin, Gulfport, Largo, Oldsmar and St. Petersburg submitted a grant application and was successfully awarded funding through the FY22 Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) federal program to conduct targeted safety analysis building on the work completed through the Safe Streets Plan. “Now is the time for each of us to do our part to guarantee that everyone can travel safely. Some people say zero deaths on our roadways by 2045 is unrealistic, but if we work together towards this goal, I think we’ll be surprised by what we can achieve. And if even one life is saved, isn’t it worth it?” ~ City of St. Petersburg Councilmember Darden Rice
