PINELLAS COUNTY, FL —- In an effort to promote bike safety and celebrate the many benefits of bicycling the Forward Pinellas Board recognizes March 2021 as Florida Bike Month. With more than 2.1 million trail users counted in 2020 with the Forward Pinellas trail count program, it is evident that many Pinellas County residents and visitors share the joy of cycling. Florida Bike Month is an avenue to provide education on roadway safety and trail etiquette for all bicyclists, motorists, and pedestrians.
“Forward Pinellas recognizes that safe bicycling and walking are critical elements of an effective urban transportation network and generate positive economic value for businesses and communities alike. We are committed to advancing bicycling as a transportation and health option, providing education to all road users to improve safety, and creating excellent places for people of all skill levels to enjoy the benefits of bicycling,” says Executive Director Whit Blanton. “As a community, we all share the road and it’s our responsibility to keep each other safe.”

The Florida Bicycle Association established March as Florida Bike Month and Forward Pinellas is celebrating Florida Bike Month to provide education and advocacy to make bicycling safe and accepted. Historically, many of our roadways were designed solely for automobile traffic and it’s essential we work on solutions together to ensure we can create a safe space for all residents.
