community conversations

ST. PETERSBURG, FL —- This is your chance to have a say in the future of the highways and roads in Downtown St. Petersburg. Forward Pinellas, the City of St. Petersburg and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) have identified potential projects that will improve access, connectivity and safety for everyone in Downtown St. Petersburg. Now, we want your thoughts on these potential solutions to ensure this plan represents our community’s vision and values. Throughout October, we’re holding one in person and four online Community Conversations.

“As Downtown St. Petersburg continues to grow, we want to make sure our transportation network fits the needs of everyone in this important regional destination. Funded by Forward Pinellas, the City of St. Petersburg and the Florida Department of Transportation, this study is the first step toward creating a more equitable, safe and connected future for our community,” said Forward Pinellas Executive Director Whit Blanton.

At the online and in person Community Conversations, we’ll talk about the potential projects as well as the benefits and impacts these projects would have on the community, both in terms of local access and regional mobility. You’ll have the opportunity to talk with the Forward Pinellas Executive Director, City of St. Petersburg Transportation and Parking Management Director, and other project managers who can answer questions and hear your thoughts.

Major projects we’ll discuss include:

  • I-175 or I-375 modification, redesign or removal to enhance connectivity throughout downtown and to surrounding neighborhoods
  • 3rd & 4th Streets conversion to two-way roads for a more walkable community, reduce trip lengths and improve access
  • 5th & 4th conversion to two-way roads for more connectivity and to promote safety
  • MLK Jr Street and 8th Street conversion to two-way roads to promote safety and improve access to businesses
