Song: Waitin' For The Bus

// Artist: ZZ Top // Lyrics

Right on, that bus done got me back / Well, I’ll be ridin’ on the bus till I Cadillac.

“In addition to being a great Texas boogie tune, ZZ Top’s classic song, “Waiting on the Bus” from the classic early ‘70s album Tres Hombres, expresses the frustration of someone who’s dependent on public transportation, which the Tampa Bay Times captured so well in this recent story. The song evokes the long bus rides of the segregated rural south and western U.S. when transportation options were truly limited. Despite the boredom of waiting and the ride in a crowded bus, the song is ultimately about the value of being done right by the bus getting the weary traveler back home to rest for another day’s work. As we look at today’s high cost of housing and transportation on Tampa Bay residents, it’s tough to understand that we really haven’t come that far.” – Whit Blanton, Executive Director
